competition - June 2019

The Ministry of Industry and Trade (MPO) building is a significant and valuable piece of architecture on the Prague waterfront. It was designed by one of the most prominent Czech architects in Prague – Josef Fanta. It was built in 1928-1934. The subject of the competition was the design of the architectural and interior design of the entrance vestibule and the office, including the design of furniture, lighting and positions of security elements. The design also includes a public entrance hall to the building.
The design of the entrance vestibule is intended to present modern, bold and interesting architecture that will appropriately complement the work of architect Josef Fanta with its contemporary architectural language.
The entrance vestibule is an architecturally distinctive, axially symmetrical and highly representative space. The overall impression is enhanced by the choice of materials used. The design of the space is harmonious, complete, perfect. Our priority is respect for the vestibule space and the original interior design.
The main idea of the design is to move the reception to the beautiful stairwell, which we place under the gallery view. Its elliptical shape was created by transforming the elliptical shape of the staircase galleries. It resembles a drop of water, floating and reflecting the beauty around it. The reception will be made of brushed stainless steel sheets polished to a high gloss. The reception area will thus reflect the material diversity of the space around it. All interior elements stand alone, they are not connected to the space in any way. They are interesting, self-confident, modern, contrasting and let the space breathe. The elements are designed as geometrically simple objects - a cylinder, a semicircle, an oval, an ellipse.
